This data point captures the total amount of heating oil consumed in stationary combustion sources across your operations during the reporting year. Heating oil, also referred to as fuel oil No. 2 or light fuel oil (LFO), is commonly used in on-site boilers, furnaces, and heating systems. The quantity must reflect actual consumption and be reported in liters, based on supplier records, internal tracking systems, or inventory withdrawals.

What to include:

  • All heating oil combusted in:

  • Stationary space heaters, industrial boilers, and furnaces

  • Heating systems serving office, production, or test sites

  • Equipment and infrastructure directly controlled by your organization

  • Data must reflect actual consumption, not just delivery

  • Reported in liters

What not to include:

  • Heating oil purchased but not burned in the reporting year

  • Fuel used by third-party contractors or leased facilities

  • Mobile heaters (unless permanently stationed and under your control)

Estimation Methodology:

If actual data for the last months of the reporting period isn’t available at the time of reporting, follow this approach:

Step-by-Step Estimation Rule:

  • Use actual monthly data for all available months in the reporting year.

  • Calculate the monthly average from the available months.

  • Multiply that average by the number of missing months to estimate those periods.

  • Add the estimated consumption to the actual year-to-date total.
