Acetylene

This data point covers direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of acetylene (C₂H₂) released from your operations within the reporting period. Acetylene is commonly used in welding, cutting, and certain chemical processes, and its combustion or release contributes to direct Scope 1 emissions.

You should report the total amount of acetylene emitted in tonnes during the reporting year.

What to include:

  • All acetylene used in combustion or welding/cutting processes where the gas is fully emitted.

  • Both production and maintenance-related consumption.

  • Report in tonnes (t) based on supplier deliveries or internal usage logs.

What not to include:

  • Acetylene used as feedstock in chemical production (report under industrial process emissions if applicable).

  • Emissions from other industrial gases (these are reported under their own datapoints, e.g., propane, Corgon 18%).

  • Stored but unused acetylene cylinders (only count consumed volumes).

Estimation Methodology:

  • Preferred: Use supplier invoices or delivery notes for acetylene purchased and consumed.

  • If direct consumption records are not available, estimate using:

    • Cylinder capacity × number of cylinders used.

    • Welding/production hours × typical acetylene usage rate.

    • Always convert to tonnes (t) before reporting.
