This data point captures GHG emissions associated with waste generated by your company’s operations during the reporting period, even if the waste is managed by third parties. Input the amount of waste in tonnes (t), classified by waste type (e.g., paper, plastics, metals, hazardous waste) and disposal method (e.g., recycling, landfill, incineration, composting).

What to include:

  • All waste streams generated during operations (production, packaging, maintenance, office waste, etc.).

  • Waste collected by internal systems or contractors, regardless of whether it is recycled, treated, or landfilled.

  • Both hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

What not to include:

  • Waste generated in your supply chain (covered in Scope 3.1).

  • Waste generated by your sold products during their use/end-of-life (covered in Scope 3.12).

  • Water discharges (covered in Scope 3.1 Water).

Estimation Methodology:

  • Preferred: Use actual data from waste management contractors (weighbridge slips, invoices, annual waste reports).

  • If partial data: Extrapolate using monthly averages or similar sites with comparable waste profiles.

  • If no waste type detail is available: classify under “mixed waste” with the most likely disposal method.

  • Always report in tonnes (t).
